Opt-In Email Leads -- Frequently Asked Questions

What are DOUBLE OPTIN LEADS?
Respondents have been sent a confirmation email asking them to reaffirm their desire to receive information (which also confirms the validity of their email address). Doing so make them "double opt-in", which are much more expensive than single optin in.
Are your email leads "opt-in" or "opt-out"?
These are DOUBLE opt in leads. Details are collected when the prospect actively checks the box next to our listing offering more information, fills out an "opportunity seeker" information request form, and freely provides their name and email address and other information which tends to confirm their genuine interest. We use only the most reputable of co-registration services, who, to the best of my knowledge, do not use any "opt-out" techniques. These are high quality DOUBLE opt in leads.
Are your opt-in leads single or double opt in?
We offer only Double opt in leads at this time.
Why don't you offer double opt-in co-registration leads?
For the simple reason that double opt-in leads would be prohibitively expensive, and take much longer to collect in large numbers. Using double opt-in tends to result in anywhere from 20% to as much as 70% "non-confirmation", depending on how the confirmation email is worded, and the nature of the people it is sent to. Some people hate clicking the links, others perhaps perceive the confirmation message itself as some sort of spam or unwanted email.
How should I contact these people, and email to such a large list?
I get a lot of questions on this, so I've contracted with an autoresponder service that I have been using for many years. www.reliablecontact.com
Can you deliver direct to my autoresponder?
Yes we can. There will be a service charge of US$55.00 per100,000
Is this a rented list, or do I own it?
This is *not* a "rental". You own the list . Each list is generated separately to ensure that your leads will be as fresh as possible when you get them. There is no such thing as a "rented list" with us!
How do I know people really opted in?
Each of the leads on your list comes with time and date stamp and IP address. They have requested information within 10 days of you receiving your list -- often much less than that. We use only the most reputable lead providers. There may be some people who will have forgotten that they requested this type of information, or some whose email information was submitted by someone else, either innocently or otherwise. There are also even a few people who go around opting in to various lists, simply so they can harass whoever emails them. Nothing can be done to stop that, except to scan your list for obvious "trap" addresses.
Are these email leads offered any money or incentives to Opt In?
NO. Generally, I do not recommend that kind of lead, as they may only have been interested in the incentive, and not be true "business opportunity seekers".
How deliverable are these email leads?
Email delivery is fraught with so many factors that I really can't tell you that. Email delivery is affected by such things as the time of day and day of the week that you email, whether your server is properly configured, whether your site and/or your autoresponder provider are "whitelisted"and many other factors. Inevitably, on a list this size, you will find some full email boxes, wrong addresses, and the like when targeting such a large list, even though every effort has been made to minimize this kind of error. Be aware also that spam filters can prevent your email from being delivered if you use words like FREE and $$$$. The list of "trigger words" grows longer every day. Test each email before you send it to your list to make sure it passes the spam filters. You can use this free spam check, or other such free services that you can find on the net.
What kind of response will I get from these people?
That depends on what you send them, and how you approach it! A very important concept to understand is that your Return On Investment is far more important than your percentage response. If you pay a penny a name, what will matter is how much revenue comes from those who eventually buy, not how many people responded to your first offer or even remained on your list.
What will my "click through" rate be with double single opt-in leads?
I couldn't possibly tell you that! If you send something ridiculous to your mailing list, or hit them over the head with "hard sell" tactics, your click-through and sales ratios will probably be close to zero! Something in the range of 2% is usually considered a good click-through rate. On the other hand, if you are creative with your subject lines and your offers, you might get a higher percentage clicking on the links in some of your emails, especially after the list is "warm". You also need to keep in mind that web sites, direct mail, and email campaigns that convert more than 1% or so are thought to be doing quite well. Your conversions will almost certainly be better if you "warm up" your list before trying to sell anything. There are many factors which affect the success of any given email campaign. If you're not succeeding, the problem isn't the quality of your leads, it's the quality of your strategy.
May of the names you sent me I already have on my list ..
Actually, that doesn't surprise me. How many lists did you sign up for when you were first starting out? "Opportunity seekers" tend to submit multiple forms and respond to multiple offers, because they are looking for something, or maybe just curious. There is absolutely no way for me to assure you that people have never before asked for information on business opportunities. Frankly, I'd be more amazed if they hadn't. By definition, "opportunity seekers" seek opportunities. If you ran your own ad, how would you know that the people filling out the form had never before asked for similar information?
Only 40% of the people stayed on my list. Why?
What did you expect? If using double opt-in can result in as many as 50% or more "non-confirmations" when you send out that first email, you can't expect an even better result from single opt-in! How many people will stay on the list and actually read the emails is highly dependent upon their perception of the value of what you offer them. Your best bet for keeping people on the list is to offer them quality information, and not push them too hard to buy things.
What are your payment terms?
We ask that you pay when you order. If your leads delivery is corrupted we will replace it. These lists are built after you place your order, to ensure they are fresh. Once your leads have been delivered, there are no refunds.
What's your refund policy?
no refunds. can be given once your order has been processed and your leads have been delivered to you. We have to pay for these fresh email leads.
Will you replace "bad" leads"?
No. To compensate for that, I deliver extra leads in your order. In the event you get a bad file that is entirely corrupted, I will, of course, provide a duplicate replacement. However, I have no control over who fills in the form requesting information, nor whether they check their email with any regularity. That is part of the risk even when you are running a subscription form on your own website. By the way, I do "clean" the lists as they are built, by removing the obvious "bad" addresses such as people who sign up using profanity, etc. We do *not* however, "ping" them before sending them to customers. Doing so would add several days to the delivery delay, given the volume I deal in.
Do you have a guarantee?
I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information (see discussion of this issue above), although in the past, this has not been a problem. We will not refund your money once I have delivered your list. You can cancel your order prior to fulfillment, and get a refund. No guarantee is stated or implied. These leads have not been pinged or verified - that would raise the price significantly and add substantially to the delivery delay.
Can you guarantee I will make money with this list?
No! Nobody can guarantee that you will make money marketing to any list, or using any marketing method, for that matter. Your success is highly dependent upon your own actions, and comes from making a valuable offer to a targeted list. You must first "warm up" your list by offering something of interest to people looking for information about how to make money online, and not be too quick to try to "sell" them. With 100,000 names on your initial list, even if only a small percentage eventually buy from you, it ought to generate revenue, provided you have controlled your other costs, but I can't possibly know whether you will make a profit. On the other hand, keep in mind the value of repeat sales, residual income, and "up sells". What is the long term value of each customer to your business?
What is the expected delivery time for my fresh email leads list?
Usually within 3 - 5 days because you are getting a "fresh" list. To be sure you get the best possible response, We do not keep lists in “inventory”. The lists are usually built within 2 days.
How many opt-in leads can I order?
See our packages here. If you want to place an order different from the packages offered, please contact us with your requirements. We can usually put together a custom proposal for you.
How often can I order?
As often as you like, though I do need to put together a 5 person co-op each time if you want the 1 penny per name price.
Is country targeting an option?
At present, my leads are all US only. At one time, I could get UK leads for business opportunity seekers as a custom order, but "country targeting" at reasonable prices is not presently available.
What if I want a different target market besides opportunity seekers?
This is often possible. Please contact us for more information. HERE
What format will the files come in?
Your files will come in CSV format, which you can import to most autoresponders. If you need another format, you'll have to provide your own conversion utility. CSV is very common, and easily handled by almost all autoresponders, spreadsheets, and file conversion utilities. When your order is ready, you will get an email with a unique link to 4 zip files that are approximately 1mb each.
How should I contact my new list when I get it?
When contacting single opt-in leads for the first time, and for follow up, I strongly recommend using an online autoresponder service with the option of uploading your leads. You may also wish to include a message such as this with your email. It subtly assures them that you are not spamming them, and reminds them that they asked for the information you are sending :
"Dear [firstname] [lastname],
On [timestamp], you, or someone using your contact information, asked for further info on (your subject, e.g., home business opportunities), from internet IP address [ip]. If you feel you received this in error, or you no longer wish to receive this information, (unsubscribe instructions here)." |
Some people put this right at the top of their first email, while others prefer to place it at the end, or not do it at all. Customers are provided specific details on my formula for first emails upon order confirmation -- as well as referrals to my preferred autoresponder solutions. Also don't forget to read the free ebook that I provide you to get you started.
How do I send out 100,000 emails?
I do not recommend that you attempt to send bulk email from your own computer. Your ISP may well object to this and cause problems for you or shut you down. We would also not recommend that you try to send bulk email from a web site, unless you stay within the guidelines outlined in your hosting provider's Terms of Service. Many of them restrict the amount of email you can send per day, although some do not. The same goes for uploading of single opt-in lists. Some allow it, most do not.
Will I get accused of spamming when contacting my leads?
I have no control over that, but do offer suggestions to keep you out of trouble. All names sent to you have asked to receive information, or at least someone using their personal information did so. However, you are dealing with people, and you may find some in such a large list who don’t remember requesting this kind of information. You are free to add the lead’s IP address and request time stamp to your email, and many people think that is a good idea. In addition, NEVER forget to include an unsubscribe link, in EVERY e-mail you send! If you are using an online autoresponder service, an unsubscribe link is usually added automatically. You also need to include your own physical address, use valid "from" and "reply-to" email addresses, and respond promptly to unsubscribe requests. If you are trying to sell something, or if you intend to, you have to identify yours as being commercial email. Read the Government
Guidelines!
It is YOUR responsibility to be sure you are in compliance with the law!
Also, it is very important that you offer information targeted to what people on this list are looking for: information on making money. They are "opportunity seekers". Offer them something of value, and then encourage your prospects to double opt-in to the autoresponders and mailing lists on your primary site(s).
How often may I contact my list?
This is YOUR list. You may contact them as often as you like. However, I do not recommend flooding them with daily emails or multiple offers. Many people may consider that spamming, and is not only unpopular, but unethical. It may also cause problems and greatly increase the rate at which people unsubscribe from your list. Treat your new list like a gold mine, because it is.
What can I send to my list?
Again, that's up to you, but if I find out you're sending out anything that is not targeted to "opportunity seekers", (or to the alternate market targeted in your custom order) I will refuse to sell to you in the future, and your autoresponder account may be subject to termination without refund.
Do you guarantee how long people will stay on my new list?
NO! This is your list and it depends very much on what you send to your list. The more interesting your mailings and the more you build a relationship with the people on your list, the better results you can hope to achieve. Conversely, bombarding them with offers, and using a "hard sell" approach will shorten your list considerably!
